An Interview with Conan O'Brien

In 1995, my brother interviewed Conan O'Brien for the USC news paper. Early on in the interview, he puts Conan on hold and its my ex-girlfriend calling for me.

Kiyoshi Nakazawa - luckynakazawa.com

One of the featured artists at Physical Nostalgia was Kiyoshi Nakazawa. He does a great zine called Drunken Master.
He has this very raw yet graphic style. Some of it reminiscent of Zen Brush Painting, some of it more urban and punk rock.

A message from Arno

As stated in an email from Arno:

"You crazy man. I'm glad that my face, or faces, are being used for the good of the people, in the name of art and uncensorship. This does mean that I have rights to your face for any upcoming project. Don't worry, I'll let you know when it's used. "

I told him as long as it wasn't porn.

Link(By the way, neither me nor Arno know who the Asian guy waving his hand is, but he was just an Asian guy standing next to Richard Gere in a photo.)

Arno is an Armenian-American Filmmaker (www.therearno.com) and also runs a bookstore specializing in Armenian literature, culture, etc. (abrilbooks.com) Also, he has somehow inspired this music.

I hope my face appears with something involving a lamajune.

Review: Salvager Kain

I just read all three (so far) issues of Paul Sloboda's Salvager Kain. It's a comic book about a guy who's kicked out of this kingdom and has all his memory wiped out. My favorite so far is Issue three. Kain runs into the King of Snakes to kick out an army of women from the Snake's castle.

He has a very clean style, reminiscent of Dave Sim. I would say-- light comedy? dark comedy? Comedy Adventure might be more appropriate. Also, one of the nice details is his expressive use of comic book lettering. I find this amazing because I letter on computer (because I misspell stuff like "butterlies"-- I'm not changing it, I think its funny. Although I did correct it in the print version.)

So, check out some of the comic previews that you can download. Hopefully his mini-comic is at your local comic shop. And bother him about getting a paypal account or doing print-on-demand. Please. He lives in a place called "Carbondale" -- does this sound like a town where he has adequate comic book-related human contact? Ask him about his basement.

Aleem in China!

My friend Aleem and his wife, Jenn (and there might be other people with him too, but I probably have never been formally introduced to them) are in China for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Although I don't care much for the Olympics, mainly because they don't recognize Bipedal Robot Sumo Wrestling as an international sport, Aleem's adventures are pretty interesting.
